Personal style is a form of self-expression and I’m all about supporting self-expression through style. Keep in mind, this is strictly my personal opinion and not meant to be harsh or hurt anyone. So what fashion trends need to go away?
All I have to say is “Damn the Kardashians!” haha. I honestly don’t understand how these are fashionable. I feel like all the Kardashians were sporting biker shorts with no intention of actually being active while wearing them. They showed of their “bottom” figure very well. That’s about it. I get that their comfy, but ladies we can do better. Cycling shorts were definitely more prevalent last year, but this trend still seems to be riding into this year. It’s time to let it go
Now don’t get me wrong. I love color and I love neon, but you should not be able to stop traffic in your outfit. If you are head-to-toe in neon and I need sunglasses to look at you it’s a little too much. You can playfully add pops of neon to your outfit if you want the color. Honestly, neon is a great fashion trend when styled responsibly.
Super Distressed Jeans
I love me a good distressed boyfriend jean. I actually have two pairs in my wardrobe right now. But the distressing has gotten really intense and in my opinion it’s a waste of money to buy a denim pant with barely any fabric. You have holes going all the way down the leg in the front, some are all cut up in the back, fabric is hanging everywhere, or a whole panel is missing. For me it’s all about balance and I appreciate the push towards an edgier design. I just prefer a happy medium when it comes to denim distressing.
Leggings as Pants
This is not only one of the worst fashion trends out there, but it’s one of my ultimate style no-no’s when I’m working with clients. This has been an issue debated over and over for many years. Now I’m okay if you wear a legging underneath a long tunic style top. But let’s avoid wear leggings as an actual pant. A lot of regular leggings are just not thick enough and I’ve seen way too many undergarments. Just wear an actual pant or a top long enough to cover the bum.
All Over Logos
The all over logo trend blew up originally in the 90’s, but has come back with a vengeance. Being plastered head to toe with logos was very edgy and cool, but in my opinion it’s one of those fashion fads I didn’t think would ever become popular again. It’s okay to love your logos and designer labels. I mean who doesn’t if you’re a true fashion enthusiast, but is it really necessary to wear the logo all over your body? In my opinion it’s a little ridiculous, but has continued to perform well in street fashion. Only time will tell how long this trend will be around.
